YCM alumnus Davis You joins the San Francisco Symphony
Cellist Davis You was a vital part of YCM for four seasons. He began his journey with the Cypress Trio in 2016, moved on to Trio Sonoro in 2017, and shifted his focus to string quartets in 2018. He played with the Onyx Rose Quartet and finally the Scorpius Quartet in 2019.
The Scorpius Quartet was on the brink of an exciting opportunity, having advanced to the finals of the Pasadena Chamber Music Competition, when YCM classes were abruptly canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although they never made it to Pasadena, Davis found a new outlet on YouTube, making history with his memorable cello arrangements and recordings as the world went online.
His first year at the New England Conservatory of Music was remote, but in subsequent years, Davis performed extensively as both a soloist and chamber musician. In 2023, his Quartet Luminera earned a Silver Medal in the Senior String Division at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
Congratulations, Davis, on your new position with the San Francisco Symphony! We’re incredibly proud of your achievements and thrilled to have you back home. Please stop by YCM anytime to say hello and perhaps share your expertise with some coaching!
